Toronto – Cinemavault will be representing international rights to the English language horror film REYKJAVIK WHALE WATCHING MASSACRE directed by Júlíus Kemp.
A tale of murder on the high seas: a group of tourists on a broken down whale-watching ship are tortured in the hands of their demented rescuers.
A cross between the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and the dark humor of “Evil Dead,” the film also features “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” star, Gunnar Hansen.
Produced by Ingvar Thordarson, Gisli Gislason and Julius Kemp of the Icelandic Film Company, together with UK-based producers Mike Downey and Sam Taylor of Film And Music Entertainment (F&ME), as well as Solar Films of Finland, other backers include the Icelandic Film Fund and the Nordic Film and TV Fund.
The companies previously worked together on “Eleven Men Out” and local box-office hit “Astropia.”
Sjon Sigurdsson, Oscar nominated for his Dancer In The Dark original song, wrote the script.
Michael Paszt, Cinemavault's VP of Acquisitions, negotiated the deal with producer Ingvar Thordarson.
Sam Film holds the rights for Iceland while E1 holds UK rights.
A world premiere at Screamfest, Cinemavault will be premiering the film at the American Film Market.
